Taurean Buchanan is a Mississippi native through and through. He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from LSU before returning home to attend Mississippi College School of Law. While there, he served as President of the Black Law Students Association and Director of Sub-Region II — leadership roles that made clear where his priorities already were.
After law school, Taurean worked at the Secretary of State’s office handling federal and state voting law, then clerked for a Hinds County Circuit Court judge. That experience gave him something most lawyers don’t have: a ground-level understanding of how justice moves through the system — and where ordinary people get left behind. When he joined a personal injury and bankruptcy firm in Jackson, he saw firsthand how much the right representation could change a life. He also saw how many people weren’t getting it.
In 2016, Taurean opened Buchanan Law with a different model in mind: fewer clients, more attention, better outcomes. Today, he is a three-time appointed Municipal Court Judge for the City of Jackson, a Mid-South Super Lawyer Rising Star, and one of the National Black Lawyers’ Top 40 Under 40.
